Moving To A New Home? Tips For Packing Your Clothing

While most things are easy to pack in boxes for a big move, others are much more difficult. You may be wondering how you should go about packing your clothing. Here are some tips that will make it easier to package up all your wearables.

Use A Wardrobe Box

If most of your clothes are currently on hangers, you should consider purchasing wardrobe boxes for moving all of those items. A wardrobe box is an upright box that has a metal bar across the top. You can move all of your clothes directly from the closet to the wardrobe box, and you know that everything will be protected. Your movers will know to move the box in the upright position to ensure that everything stays on the hangers and that nothing gets wrinkles.

Use Suit Bags

Another option that you can use to move clothing from your closet is to put everything in suit bags. These cheap bags are made out of plastic and have a zipper on them but still leave a small hole along the top for a hanger to stick through. You can place dozens of shirts into a single suit bag, which will prevent the items from getting dirty during the move.

The suit bags are a bit harder to move than a wardrobe box but have their own advantages. Suit bags are cheap, reusable, and take up little space for storing them until your next move. The best part is that you can place the suit bags directly into your new closet and worry about unpacking them later. While you may think that you can get away with cutting a hole in a trash bag to achieve the same effect, those bags can easily rip or allow the clothing to get dirty if it is dropped with the open bottom of the bag.

Unpack Dresser Drawers

While it may be tempting to leave all your clothing in your dresser, it is going to make moving the dresser much more difficult with all the weight. In addition, if the dresser tips sideways and the drawers slide outward, it can cause the drawers to break from all the weight. You are always better off placing items in your drawers into boxes. Consider using a large box, and place a piece of cardboard between layers to separate the drawer contents. This will make it easier to put it all back at your new place.
